Job Description

COMPANY OVERVIEW:

Proper Insurance is a specialty property & casualty program manager (MGA) offering insurance for short term rental properties (eg. Airbnb, VRBO). We are known for white‑glove claims service and pragmatic underwriting. We pair deep industry expertise with modern technology to deliver clear coverage, swift claims handling, and consistently excellent policyholder experiences. If you like high standards, direct communication, and solving real problems for customers, you’ll fit right in.

POSITION SUMMARY:

We’re hiring experienced Desk Adjusters to handle property and/or casualty claims from first notice through resolution. You will investigate coverage, evaluate damages and liability, negotiate fair settlements, and own the customer experience—end to end. This is a hands‑on role for adjusters who know how to move files, make sound decisions, and communicate clearly.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own a caseload of property and/or casualty claims from FNOL to closure with accuracy, urgency, and empathy.
  • Analyze coverage against policy forms and endorsements; document clear, defensible coverage positions.
  • Plan and execute investigations (statements, scene reviews, recorded interviews, and document collection).
  • Evaluate damages using estimates, invoices, reports, and photos; apply depreciation, limits, deductibles, and sub‑limits correctly.
  • For property: scope losses, validate cause of loss, and reconcile contractor estimates; request and review expert reports as needed.
  • For casualty: assess liability and comparative fault; evaluate injury severity, specials, and general damages.
  • Prepare and negotiate settlements that are fair, fast, and consistent with facts, policy, and jurisdictional law.
  • Set, monitor, and adjust reserves based on exposure; escalate outliers early.
  • Coordinate IA/field resources, experts, and vendors; give precise instructions and hold them accountable.
  • Manage litigated files with panel counsel: strategy, budgets, reporting, and resolution planning.
  • Communicate proactively with insureds, claimants, brokers, and internal stakeholders; no black holes.
  • Maintain meticulous file notes, diary discipline, and compliance with internal SLAs and regulatory requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2+ years' adjusting experience handling property and/or casualty claims with proven end‑to‑end ownership.
  • Solid coverage analysis skills and the ability to write clear, defensible coverage letters.
  • Strong negotiation, written, and verbal communication skills; comfortable delivering hard news respectfully.
  • Working knowledge of claim regulations, time limits, and good‑faith/Unfair Claims Practices requirements.
  • Technically diligent: disciplined diary management, clean documentation, and data accuracy.
  • Active adjusting license(s) as required by state; ability to obtain additional licenses if needed.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

Annual Salary: $50,000 - $120,000

Benefits:

  • Paid time off such as PTO, sick days, and vacation days
  • Health insurance
  • Life insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • Retirement benefits or accounts
  • Healthcare spending or reimbursement accounts, such as HSAs, FSAs, and HRAs
  • Short term disability insurance
  • Workplace perks such as recreation activities, food and coffee, and flexible work schedules

Schedule: Full-Time. Generally, during business hours
